Fiona Troy Brings Memory, Heritage and Reinvention to London Fashion Week SS27
Irish designer Fiona Troy brought a quieter vision of luxury to London Fashion Week SS27, transforming vintage textiles and forgotten heirlooms into contemporary womenswear shaped by memory, craftsmanship and reinvention.
For Fiona Troy, materials are never simply the starting point of a garment. They arrive with a history of their own.
A piece of cloth may carry traces of another era, another wardrobe, or someone else’s story. Rather than concealing those traces, the Irish contemporary womenswear designer allows them to become part of something new.
When the Past Becomes the Collection
At the heart of Troy’s work is a fascination with nostalgia, forgotten heirlooms, and the quiet beauty of everyday objects.
Vintage and reclaimed materials are reimagined through contemporary silhouettes, giving something that might otherwise have been forgotten a new purpose.
It is an approach that feels particularly relevant at a moment when the fashion industry continues to question not only what it creates, but how much it produces.
For Troy, however, working with existing materials is about more than sustainability. It is also about memory.
Signs of age and imperfection do not necessarily need to be hidden. Instead, they can become part of a garment’s individuality — details that make it difficult, if not impossible, to reproduce in exactly the same way.

A Dialogue Between Heritage and Modernity
Through craftsmanship and thoughtful design, Troy creates a dialogue between Irish heritage and contemporary fashion.
Rather than recreating the past, she uses it as material for something new. Existing textiles are given another life, while the stories embedded within them remain present beneath their new form.
The result is a different interpretation of luxury — one that places value not only on newness, but on character, individuality, and the creative possibilities of what already exists.
At Dartmouth House, that philosophy gave Troy’s London Fashion Week presentation a significance beyond the introduction of another collection. In an industry often driven by the search for what comes next, her work offered a reminder that reinvention does not always have to begin from scratch.
Sometimes, fashion’s future can be created from something that already has a past.
