Joseph Nicholas Everett Redgun and Aidan Amore, co-founders and creative directors of THE UNEksPECTED® by KAITSAUKA®, believe that there is more to art than romanticizing ownership of new creations or ideas. While their creations have an ethereal vibe to the finished product, it’s not about trying to be extra and over-the-top for the sake of being unique. Rather, any artwork presented by KAITSAUKA® is about showcasing real-life events through symbolic forms of media. The outcome is meant to emphasize their perspective on political and/or environmental situations that happen around us, represented in a more graceful manner; all theatrics have a purpose beyond just looking transcendental.

Amore and Redgun’s philosophical outlook on not only their own artwork, but art in general, falls back to the concept that everyone is participating in an ongoing evolution of existing ideas—their work translates culture and human phenomena with creative media ranging from couture, through makeup, to film and music. Their inspiration is not fabricated from godly influence, but instead world engagement that they then transform into a larger spectacle.

Working as a couple, they share 50/50 responsibility within every task while still appreciating each other’s separate special talents. Redgun is the team’s fashion designer, creating custom pieces that Amore often models in his music videos. Together, they have brought their perceptions to life through KAITSAUKA® and THE UNEksPECTED® (which currently has a documentary in the making, exploring the backstage process).

As far as resources and supplies for their projects go, they use all kinds of up-cycled fabrics, makeup, technologies, and editing software to achieve the most aesthetically pleasing result.
“Best tool remains intuition. Never fails you,” say Amore and Redgun.
So what exactly is the main creative direction of KAITSAUKA®? The creators expressed that with influence from global issues happening around us, they position themselves as observers and participants rather than separating themselves as artists rising above the problems. They note that KAITSAUKA® is a partial mystery to even themselves, because the unknown will always lead to more interesting outcomes. Amore and Redgun actually encourage their viewers to find their own understandings and interpretations of their productions. However, here is what can certainly be said about the couture house in a few short words:

“Trans-disciplinary, explorative, experimental, intuitive, fluid… you’ll notice with the use of these keywords that we don’t want to fall prey to the contemporary pressures of marketing strategies urging creators to pin down their activity to an easily-digestable content, ready-made for social media consumption,” they say. “We want to challenge that, remain broad, see where things take us, rather than to let exterior dogma limit our narrative.”

In a world where resources are becoming increasingly more limited, Redgun and Amore work diligently to create their ongoing masterpieces with respect for the earth and their team of creatives. When a balance is found for something you truly love doing while still being mindful of the meaning behind it, beautiful things can happen, and these two artists are a first-class example.
