A Vancouver Island MUA You Need to Know About
You know when you’re getting ready for an event and the makeup you did came out okay, but you think a professional could have made it perfect? It’s an issue beauty gurus run into from time to time, and sometimes looking for a makeup artist can feel daunting.
Well, look no further. Chloe Lorraine, a professional makeup artist based on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, specializes in bridal makeup , boudoir, and other events where a little glam assistance is needed.
Lorraine’s career started out by doing makeup on her friends before securing a job at a Shoppers Drug Mart beauty boutique when she was 18. Since then, she’s been building her business and clientele in the luxurious side of the beauty industry, making the person sitting in her chair feel truly pampered.
Her inspiration originally stemmed from watching celebrities online, such as YouTuber Jaclyn Hill and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic. She also found herself admiring the beauty of a woman who feels her best and having the desire to give people that same sense of joy and empowerment.
“I’ve always loved the way makeup can transform not just how someone looks, but how they feel. The confidence, the excitement, the actual magic of it—it’s addictive,” she says. “I knew early on growing up that I wanted to be part of those special, meaningful moments in people’s lives, and artistry became my way of doing that.”
With her makeup expertise, she creates balance and symmetry by carefully analyzing her client’s facial features. A bare face becomes a canvas in which she adjusts blush, highlight, and contour placements according to bone structures and face shapes, while finding the perfect foundation shade based on complexions and undertones. Every makeup look is tailored to each individual, and each makeup session holds a special bonding experience.
She notes that a common mistake she sees in beauty is using too much foundation and powder for coverage and not enough blending. When she is doing a client’s makeup, she wants the end result to look as classy as possible, rather than the makeup looking thick and layered in an unnatural way.
Lorraine is constantly practicing her art and researching inspiration for new looks and trends, but also appreciates learning the makeup preferences of the clients she works with. There is a signature style she is known for, however, and it looks incredible on everyone.
“My style is timeless, glowing, and polished. I love enhancing someone’s natural features rather than masking them, so my work leans toward soft glam that feels done, seamless, and effortless all at the same time.”
Lorraine makes sure to put some extra love into the skin prep she does on her clients—one of the most important steps in a makeup routine. Her skincare holy grail is the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base, which is actually both a moisturizer and primer that gives the skin a dewy and fresh look before makeup application.
Some of her other essentials include the Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation, Makeup by Mario’s Master Mattes for eyeshadow, and One/Size On ‘Til Dawn setting spray to lock the makeup in all day.
“For budget-friendly, I love NYX Cosmetics and Maybelline—they’re reliable and always innovating. On the luxury side, Charlotte Tilbury and Dior Beauty are definitely staples in my kit. They just deliver that elevated finish my brides and clients all love,” she explains.
So far, she has loved the traveling component that comes with the career, and one day she would love to collaborate with Charlotte Tilbury, whose line greatly influences her as an artist. Throughout her journey, she has loved welcoming shimmer and glow for everyone, regardless of their age.
“Makeup is more than artistry to me; it’s connection, confidence, and storytelling. And I never take for granted the trust my clients put in me.”
