OJOYI: Sophistication with a Pageant Touch

From a pageant model to a fashion designer, Jane Ogbe-Makinwa, founder & creative director of OJOYI, is an artist who empowers women through luxury garments. Fashion becomes her voice and personal mission to encourage girls to feel seen and celebrated.
“OJOYI draws inspiration from the multifaceted lives of women—our strength, softness, grace, and resilience. I’m influenced by real-life experiences, modern femininity, and the desire to tell visual stories through fabric,” says Ogbe.
Creating a powerful collection with many thought-provoking and technical elements can take anywhere from three to six months. From concept development to fabric sourcing, design sketching, pattern making, and sewing, the process can’t be rushed. The woman wearing the blazer or dress should feel graceful and confident, which is why each piece is created with precision and refined attention to detail.
OJOYI presented the collection Freshly Suited at RunwayTO, which brought femininity and glamour to statement dresses and pantsuits. With a chosen selection of sequins, velvet, mesh, and lace, the pieces were crafted with the intention of leaving long-lasting impressions.
“I don’t design to follow what’s hot—I design to express something meaningful. While I’m aware of trends, I filter them through the lens of the OJOYI woman. Originality comes from authenticity, and that’s what I always return to.”
