Joseph Tassoni Presents Natural Authority SS/FW 2027 in Toronto
The Canadian designer returns to Toronto with Natural Authority, an SS/FW 2027 collection that places fashion, digital art, and a deeply personal study of confidence within the same space.
For Joseph Tassoni, the runway is becoming more than a place to present clothes. On September 18, the Canadian designer will unveil Natural Authority, his SS/FW 2027 collection, at Arcadia Earth at The Well in Toronto, rethinking the traditional fashion-show format through digital art, sound, and performance.
Four years into producing his own runway presentations, Tassoni is turning the lens inward. This time, the designer himself becomes part of the visual language of the evening.
Through large-scale projections and moving imagery, a digital portrait of Tassoni will be deconstructed and reconstructed throughout the space, blurring the lines between fashion, self-portraiture, technology, and performance art.
“Natural Authority is about presence — the confidence of knowing who you are without having to announce it,” Tassoni says. “This collection is deeply personal, so it felt natural that I become part of the visual language of the experience itself.”
When the Designer Becomes the Artwork
At the centre of Natural Authority is an unusual reversal: rather than remaining behind his collection, Tassoni places his own image within its world.
Projected throughout the venue, his digital portrait becomes another element of the presentation — fragmented, reconstructed, and woven into an environment that extends the collection beyond the clothes themselves.
The idea mirrors the themes Tassoni is exploring this season: attraction, sensuality, self-possession, and a quieter kind of authority. He describes the atmosphere he wants to create as “intimate, sensual, unexpected and completely alive.”
Before the clothes appear on the runway, guests will move through a series of digital environments. The collection will then be shown through two timed presentations, shifting the evening away from the conventional rhythm of a single runway show.
Natural Authority SS/FW 2027
For SS/FW 2027, Tassoni turns to a restrained palette of black, white, and neutrals, alongside sheer fabrication and leather. Balancing warm- and cold-weather dressing, the collection continues his focus on Canadian craftsmanship while moving into more intimate territory.
The title itself offers a clue to the designer’s thinking. Natural Authority is less concerned with overt displays of power than with the kind of confidence that does not require performance — an idea reflected both in the collection and in the people chosen to wear it.
Professional models will share the runway with Canadian personalities, creators, cancer survivors, and members of the wider Joseph Tassoni community.
It makes the cast part of the narrative rather than simply the vehicle for it: different people, backgrounds, and experiences offering their own interpretations of presence and individuality.
Beyond the Clothes
Tassoni’s independent presentations have gradually expanded beyond the traditional boundaries of a runway show. Since 2023, his events have brought Canadian fashion into conversation with hospitality, technology, business, philanthropy, and the creative community.
Natural Authority continues that approach. Food, beverages, and tastings from hospitality partners will accompany the evening, followed by an official after-party at EPOCH Bar & Kitchen Terrace at The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto.
For Tassoni, these elements are less about expanding the spectacle than about the community that forms around it.
“Fashion has always been the starting point, but the evening becomes much larger because of the people and businesses that come together around it,” he says.
Four Years of Fashion With Purpose
That sense of community also extends to the philanthropic side of the project. For the fourth year, proceeds from the event’s silent auction will support the Oakville Hospital Foundation, including its mental-health and inclusivity initiatives and broader work within the community.
“Supporting our community is not separate from what we do,” Tassoni says. “It is part of why these experiences exist.”
Over four years, what began as an independently produced fashion presentation has developed into something broader — a meeting point for fashion, creativity, business, and community.
But Natural Authority introduces a more introspective dimension. Tassoni is no longer simply designing the world around the clothes; he is placing himself inside it, using his own image as another medium through which to consider the collection’s central idea.
When the presentation unfolds in Toronto on September 18, the question at its centre will be a deceptively simple one: What does confidence look like when it no longer needs to announce itself?
